Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles
Raffles was born on the ship Ann off the coast of Port Moran, Jamaica on July 6, 1781 and dead in 44 years old on England July 5, 1826.
He well known as the founder of the city of Singapore (now the city-state of the Republic of Singapore). He was also heavily involved in the conquest of the Indonesian island of Java from Dutch and French military forces during the Napoleonic Wars.
He is one of the more famous Britons who contributed to the expansion of the British Empire.
